Decarbonization of Water/Wastewater

Pumping water, treating wastewater, desalinating seawater, and heating water all contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing, and eliminating emissions where possible, is already an effort many in water/wastewater are pursuing; however, more can be done. Spanning hardware, software, and business model innovations, early-stage companies, corporates, and consultancies are supporting their customer's transition to a low-carbon future.

Climate Adaptation

Whether too much water (e.g. floods, sea-level rise), too little water (e.g. droughts, acidification), or water quality concerns (e.g. harmful algal blooms, eutrophication), the result of a warmer atmosphere is a disrupted hydrological cycle and an uncertain water future for all. The climate of yesterday is not guaranteed going forward, and even if we cease all carbon emissions today we need to invest in and deploy solutions to support industry and society adapt to an uncertain water future. Most of humanity’s climate adaptation needs will center around forecasting and managing water-related risks.
